Declan Rice- game changer or bit of a disappointment?
I hesitate to ask this question because Declan is clearly an extraordinary talent but it struck me when I watched the game against Palace that Saha impacted the game much more than Declan did. I found myself thinking, just before he scored against Southampton away, that we weren’t getting as much out of him as you’d expect from a guaranteed starter for England. And then he scored, so maybe I’m talking bollocks. It’s just that for all the hype around him there are times I forget we have an incredibly well regarded international player on the pitch and on our side. Perhaps it’s Moyes’s fault for using him as he does and not allowing him a free reign to rampage forward until we go a goal behind and eighty minutes have passed. Whatever. I’d be interested to know if others feel young Dec- in quite probably his last season with us- should be grabbing games and our team by the scruff of the neck and getting us over the line. Thoughts?

If we got say £110m plus Phillips. Went out and bought someone like Locatelli and then actually used the other £80m to strengthen right and left back and another cf then we should go for it. Let’s be honest, he is off anyway. Will be gutted but…

To be fair he's not fit to do that....

Re: Declan Rice- game changer or bit of a disappointment?
He was basically the dominant midfielder in the EURO. The Italy coach said he was amazed when he went off.

He's playing in a poor west ham side this season so it's not surprising he's not looking so great.

Who would be rated above him in his position in the past couple of years?

If Rice went to City, Phillips would stay there.
Someone has to clean Dec's boots

Zico , that’s a deal I could see West Ham agree to . Sell our biggest asset for a crock .

If Pep is interested I could see a cash plus player offer with Phillips being the swap deal. Just can't see Phillips being a regular up at City.

By the way, I don’t think he will go there as I reckon he will end up at Chelsea.

Newcastle. £160m. Not as far fetched as it sounds if they get champions league.

''Real Madrid would pay it. No problem.''

No they won't. You appear to be Declan's biggest fan, up to you, but I don't think the big boys rate him as highly as you do. We will see who is right next summer, but I'll give you a clue, it will very likely be me.

Re: Declan Rice- game changer or bit of a disappointment?
All good, thanks Eerie.

TBH I don't think it would have made much difference. If he wants to compete at the top level on a consistent basis, he's not going to do it at West Ham. Even had we qualified for the Champions League via the Europa last season, he'd been sitting here with same (non) decision to make.

Presuming he goes this summer, he will have sacrificed the best past of £15m to make it happen. I think that's a measure of his ambition, which we are sadly unable to fulfill.

Re: Declan Rice- game changer or bit of a disappointment?
Yeah, agree Bruce. There was a chance he would've signed a contract had we reinforced last January and won the Europa Cup, but the manager's lack of planning put paid to that.

Hope you're well btw.

"Also, the idea that he has somehow been poor this season is laughable."

100%

The fact that someone genuinely put on here they actually don't even rate him is even more so.

Declan Rice is on approx £65k per week. At any point over the past two years he could have trebled that. The fact he has chosen not to tells you all you need to know. Short of us challenging for the Premier Legaue and Champions League there was no absolutely no way he was going to consider signing a new contract.

He got the thirst for the big prize during the Euros and who can really blame him? His ceiling is currently way higher than the club's. The writing has been on the wall for a long, long time.

Also, the idea that he has somehow been poor this season is laughable. It's a measure of how high expectations of him are, that he's been our best player by some distance yet he's still viewed by some as underperforming.

Re: Declan Rice- game changer or bit of a disappointment?
The biggest value in Rice is his injury record. It's ridiculous how many games that boy has played over the last 3yrs.

He's worth 100m for that alone. You can rely on him. Has Philips even played this year??

Re: Declan Rice- game changer or bit of a disappointment?
Couldn't give a flying fuck where he ends up.
As long as we get the most cash possible. We fucking need it to rebuild the side, hopefully with a competent new manager and owner on board.
Top draw player, out of our league now.

Real Madrid would pay it. No problem.

They've let Casemiro go. Kroos is reportedly leaving in Jan. Modric is still a great player but is 37. They have an excellent young player called Camavigna who plays DM who I think will be a world star but he's only 18. Tchouameni is another very young DM they got but after a few games he went off the boil.

So Real Madrid's holding midfielder role is up for grabs and is perfect for Rice.

This is the club that once spent £110m on 3 right backs in one transfer window.

Re: Declan Rice- game changer or bit of a disappointment?
Real Madrid will go for Declan . In a recent supporters poll he was 2nd behind mbappe in the players they'd most like to sign . I was hopeful rice would stay with us. but Sullivans incompetence has put paid to that . How can a manager spend 180m make the worst start to a season since 1976 yet still be in a job .

Re: Declan Rice- game changer or bit of a disappointment?
I always thought city had got phillips so they could use him as part of an exchange + cash deal if they wanted rice. whether phillips would be happy about that isn't clear, plus he does seem a bit injury prone so i'd prefer someone like gallagher from the other mob if we did such business

Manuel 4:35 Fri Nov 18
Re: Declan Rice- game changer or bit of a disappointment?
Hard to know what Pep thinks of Rice as never seen any links or quotes etc with City, but with Rodri and Phillips there I'd be surprised if they would spend circa 100 mil on another DM.

City are always interested in any top class player and you can be sure they'll be sniffing around at the very least.
